Why I don’t bring my dog to workplace

December 2, 2012 | By | Reply More

I wrote this post after my friend asked my opinion about bringing her dog to his workplace. This is a very good topic and issue to all dog owners. Should you bring your dog to work? Personally, it is up to you. Yes, you can bring your dog to your office (if only your office permit you to do so) and you have full responsibility to your dog and any problems caused by your dog if any. I don’t bring my dog to my workplace. As I am a civil engineer, I spend most of my time at construction are, so it would extremely dangerous to bring along my dog.

There are some conditions that you must be fully aware off when you bring your dog to your office.

As your dog will potentially met new dogs and new people, you must ensure that your dog will not bite any of your colleagues or fighting with the other dogs. If any of these situations occurred, your dog will be in trouble. You surely do not want your dog to be cast away from the office or worst your dog will be put to sleep due to aggression.

If your dog is too aggressive, it is best if you left him/her at home. If you still want to bring your dog to your office, train your dog to be calm and submissive. There are a lot of dog bit cases every year. You surely don’t want your dog to be included in the statistic.

Dogs need attention and care. Therefore, your office must have a dog friendly atmosphere. Do your offices have a room or a place that specially built for dogs? Other than your dog sits beside you all the time, you can bring your dog to this place so that your dog can interact with other dogs. Socialization is one of the most important elements in dog’s life and even us. Imagine that you were kept in 6ft by 6ft room with no windows and left alone.

Please put your dog’s leech on every time at the office unless your dog is calm and submissive. Why? This is based on my friend’s experience. Recently he brought his dog to his office for the first time. Because his dog is not aggressive so he does not put the leech on. Suddenly, his dog becomes wild and jump all over the place and even on the desk. His boss gave him a stern warning and almost cost him his job.

Before you decide to bring you dog to your office, please be sure that your dog will not cause any trouble. For me, I wish I can bring my dog along with me. But the construction site is dangerous for him.
